In effect, the structured approach adopted simplifes the update process for multiple hierarchies and provides uers with confidence in the resultant numbers. One of the main benefits for users is the ability to make changes at base level, which then automatically updates ALL the reporting formats. For example, if a late adjustment was made to the financial data, then this adjustment would be reflected in all the reporting formats once recalculated. This methodology significantly reduces the reconciliation process and allows the analysts and accountants to do what they are paid to do, not the time consuming, clerical tasks associated with spreadsheets. Also important to the end user, is the ability to slice ad-hoc reports from Microsoft's Analysis Services (OLAP) cubes into the familiar spreadsheet format.
